Dr. Hazel “Doc Rocks” Thompson

Lead Guide

Bio

From tenured geology professor to full-time climbing guide – not the career path my parents expected! After spending 20 years studying rocks in a lab, I decided it was time to actually climb them. These days, I combine my academic expertise with hands-on adventure, leading “vertical geology tours” where climbers learn about rock formation while scaling it. My students say my enthusiasm for metamorphic processes is contagious, especially when I’m hanging off a cliff face pointing out ancient glacial striations. Fun fact: I still grade papers between belaying clients.
